On the tour, we were led around this five acre area of Montserrat while the guide explained the block's rich history. Some of the buildings we saw included the San Ignacio church (the city's oldest), the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires (National High School of Buenos Aires), and the Universidad de Buenos Aires (University of Buenos Aires). | ||||

By far, the best part of the tour was seeing the underground tunnels that were built by the Jesuits to connect their churches to other important parts of Buenos Aires. Nowadays, some of the tunnels are used by high schools to play hooky when they don't want to attend class. |
